Chamber music in Lincolnshire

Having been intrigued earlier this year by an arts festival in Skegness (Lincolnshire), I was pleased to note that Ashley Wass's Lincoln and Lincolnshire Chamber Music Festival goes from strength to strength. I have an interest because, like Wass, I am a Lincolnshire lad. The festival is based in Lincoln but uses venues in and around the county.  It runs from 15 to 19 August and this year's theme is Notes from Nature, from Biber's imitations of the animal world through to Messiaen's birdsong, with Sally Beamish as the Composer in Residence.

Venues include the Assembly Rooms in Lincoln, the Long Gallery in historic Doddington Hall plus concerts in Caistor, Horncastle, Sleaford. Music runs the gamut of chamber music including highways and byways such as Haydn's Sunrise Quartet, Boccherini's String Quintet Night Music of the Streets of Madrid, Borodin's 2nd String Quartet, Piazzolla, Gershwin, Schoenberg's Verklarte Nacht, Elgar's Piano Quintet, Messiaen's Quartet for the End of Time, Schubert's Trout Quintet and a goodly amount of Sally Beamish's music along with meet the composer events. The final concert includes Saint Saens carnival of animals, Milhaud's ox on the roof, Haydn's lark, and Biber's imitations of animals.

More details from the festival website.
